World Teachers Day

5 October every year: Celebrating teachers worldwide.

This is the day to celebrate the unique and vital role of teachers, in every country and continent of the world. Each year has a different theme - the theme for 2012 is 'Take a stand for teachers!'

Across the world, a quality education offers both hope and opportunities of a better standard of living. However, there can be no quality education without competent and motivated teachers. Teachers are among the many factors that keep children in school and influence learning. They help students think critically, work cooperatively, tackle problems and make informed choices.

Why take a stand for teachers? Because in many parts of the world, the profession is losing its status. A quality education offers both hope and opportunities of a better standard of living. There can be no quality education without competent and motivated teachers. Teachers are among the many factors that keep children in school and influence learning. They help students think critically, work cooperatively, tackle problems and make informed choices.

STAR4Africa's World Teachers' Day 2012 Challenge

STAR4Africa's challenge for all pupils enrolled on School2School to think about the qualities they admire in their teacher or, the best words of advice their teacher has passed on to them. Pupils are asked to jot down these messages and post to STAR4Africa. We will then print and produce the messages on a towel which will be presented to the teacher. Our teachers are encouraged to display their appreciation towels in their school...a good reminder for both pupils and teachers!

We look forward to sharing the results of this World Teachers' Day Challenge.
